‘I have thoroughly enjoyed myself both as an undergraduate and a teacher in this University’.
Those were the words of Professor Anthonia Ngozika Maduekwe whose turn it was to draw the curtain on her time as a staff of the University of Lagos, ahead of June 8, 2023, when she will clock the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.
It was a proud moment of thanksgiving inside the hallowed chamber on Wednesday, May 30, 2023, when UNILAG Senate members joined Professor Maduakwe to sing melodious tunes in appreciation of her dedication to service and humanity.
In her congratulatory remark, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Atsenuwa who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, expressed profound gratitude to Professor Maduekwe for her immense contributions to the body of knowledge whilst she served the university.
“.. on behalf of management, staff, and students of our University we thank you and pray that God grants you good health, even after retirement “.
In response, Professor Madueke expressed gratitude to God for granting her the grace to have lived life well for seven decades. The thorough-bred UNILAG alumna declared that she had enjoyed every bit of her time within the university.
According to her, “the University has greatly impacted me and I would always be indebted to the institution for the beautiful memories. I am leaving without any ounce of regret”.
The Septuagenarian used the medium to admonish colleagues to always put in their best while praying for strength to finish well.
Born on June 8, 1953, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Professor Anthonia Ngozika Maduekwe started her teaching career in the University of Lagos in 1998 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2019.
