Authorities of the University of Lagos and Consul General of Switzerland in Lagos, Frank Eggmann have agreed to explore collaborations in the areas of blockchain/fintech and hydroponics.
The two parties reached the agreement on Thursday, November 9, 2023, when the Consul General accompanied by Trade Advisor at the Consulate General of Switzerland in Lagos, Ngozi Anyaso paid a courtesy visit to the University.
He was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, along with Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Prof. Bola Oboh; Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde; and Bursar, Mrs. Olufunmilola Adekunle.
Receiving the visitors in her 11th floor, Senate House Office, Prof. Ogunsola reeled out some of the activities the University has embarked on in recent times – innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking, robotics and artificial intelligence. She pointed out efforts being made to push hands-on approaches in the various faculties. The Vice-Chancellor indicated the University’s interested in hydroponic agriculture – a technique of growing plants using water-based nutrient solution rather than soil.
In his remarks, Mr. Frank described Switzerland as the “Crypto-Valley” of the world, as it has the largest cryptosystem, just like Silicon Valley in the United States of America. He highlighted in Switzerland’s permeability of skills – where in vocational workers are highly skilful and have proper training in other aspects required for running a business – such as accounting, human resources management among others. He disclosed that Switzerland would be more than happy to consider other areas of collaboration.
