UNILAG Mgt. Breaks Ramadan Fast with Muslim Community

Management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Monday, April 8, 2024, hosted members of the UNILAG Muslim Community to an Iftar (breaking of Ramadan fast) programme.

The event which was held at the Senate Lounge, first floor of the UNILAG Senate House, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola OON, FAS, was in display of solidarity, love and benevolence among several other virtues which the Ramadan season preaches.

In her remarks while addressing the gathering, Prof. Ogunsola who was flanked by other members of the University Management, congratulated members of the Muslim community for witnessing, persevering and seeing the Holy month till its end. She also applauded them for their support towards fostering the all-inclusive, harmonious, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere which UNILAG has enjoyed over the decades.

While appreciating the contributions of the Muslim Ummah towards strengthening good morals and a culture of discipline on campus, Prof. Ogunsola solicited a continuation of their mutual cooperation, prayers and support with a view to sustaining the wave and pace of progress and development in UNILAG.

In his remarks, the Chairman, University of Lagos Muslim Community, Professor Hakeem Olaniyan expressed gratitude to the university management for sustaining the Iftar Tradition despite the prevalent economic situation and scarce resources.

While acknowledging and appreciating the cordiality among all religious faiths on campus, the Professor of International Law and Jurisprudence, on behalf of members of the UNILAG Muslim Community, assured of their unalloyed support and commitment towards ensuring the actualization of the FUTURE-READY Agenda of the Prof. Folasade Ogunsola led management.

The Chief Imam, University of Lagos Central Mosque, Professor Ismail Musa, led a prayer session for the University management, Lagos State and Nigeria at large. He also presented a publication on Energy Conservation to the University management for replication across campus.

There were remarks from some members of the UNILAG Muslim Community namely Professor Alabi Soneye, Professor Ikmot Koleosho and the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Musa Obalola. They all thanked members of the University management for their positive disposition towards the Muslim Community as evident in the Iftar programme.

Highpoint of the event was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola leading other members of Management and the UNILAG Muslim Community to the food stand where they were served their preferred meals and drinks.

Management of the University of Lagos, has, for decades, held annual Iftar Programmes with the UNILAG Muslim Community during the month of Ramadan as a way of identifying with members during the fasting season as well as fostering religious harmony on campus.
