“Thank You for Giving Us Wings to Fly” – says KAAF MLMC MD, Dr. Adesumbo Odeseye at 10th Year Anniversary

The joy of the Management and staff of Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation Medical Laboratory and Maternity Centre (KAAF MLMC), knew no bounds as the facility, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, celebrated its 10th year anniversary amidst pomp and pageantry.

Dr. Odeseye

The Medical Director of the Facility, Dr. Adesunmbo Odeseye kick-started the celebration by appreciating the founder of the Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF), Sir (Dr.) Chief Kensington Adebutu, the Board members- current and former, and members of staff for giving 10 years of themselves to the medical facility.

Dr. Olorode

Representative of the founder of the foundation, Dr. Abiola Olorode in her brief remarks, extolled the virtues and philanthropism of her father, Pa Kensington Adebutu. She disclosed that the Foundation was launched 19 years ago with its core areas being health, sports, religion and education. She expressed appreciation to the pioneer Chairman of the KAAF MLMC Board, Dr. Richard Ajayi for his unwavering support over the years; the immediate past Chair, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola and current Chair, Prof. Bosede Afolabi for their efforts in ensuring that the Hospital continues to thrive, a decade later. Reeling out various contributions of the Foundation to the hospital, she revealed that the hospital facility was established on May 2, 2024, while the first delivery was in August 2014.

The founder, Sir. (Dr.) Kensington Adebutu, in his goodwill message, expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s performance and encouraged the staff and board members to keep up the good work as well as the standard of the hospital.

Prof. Chukwu

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian Chukwu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the event, attested to the laboratory services being second to none, having used KAAF services in the past. He encouraged the university community to make use of the maternity services of the KAAF MLMC. According to him, KAAF MLMC has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of service delivery and maintenance of its edifice and equipment. Prof. Chukwu acknowledged the hard work, resilience and passion of the staff and the Board.

Prof. Afolabi

The Board Chair, Prof. Bosede Afolabi, in her remarks, traced the hospital’s journey noting that “although the hospital is a non-profit organisation, it continues to maintain a high standard of operation”.

Dr. Ajayi

Similarly, the pioneer Chairman of the KAAF MLMC Board, Dr. Richard Ajayi, averred that quite a number of people played a role in the success of KAAF MLMC. He thanked Sir. Adebutu for his support and magnanimous gesture towards the hospital and pledged a sum of one million naira (N1,000,000) to the hospital.

Other highlights of the event was the presentation of donation of one million naira (N1,000,000) cash by Mr. Ding, a loyal Chinese customer whose Nigerian wife had birthed two of their three children at the Hospital and the presentation of equipment donated to the hospital by KAAF. The equipment valued at over 10 million naira (N10,000,000), include:

⦁ Gynaecological examination couch
⦁ 50 litres Autoclave
⦁ Neonatal incubator
⦁ Infant radiant warmer
⦁ Phototherapy light – LED
⦁ Phototherapy light eye shield
⦁ Cardiotocograph – CTG

Awards were presented to long-serving members of staff for their commitment and dedication to the Hospital over the years. The awards, presented by the Board Chair, Prof. Bosede Afolabi and pioneer MD of the facility, Dr. P. O. Okunsanya, were in two categories, as indicated below:

  1. Staff who had spent 10 years in the hospital:
    ⦁ Mr. Olukayode Adekomaya (Maintenance supervisor)
    ⦁ Mr. Alphonsus Eribiri (Security personnel)
    ⦁ Mr. Adeniran Jamiu Agboola (Laundry personnel)
    ⦁ Mrs. Sarah John (HMO Officer)
  2. Staff who had served 5 years and above:
    ⦁ Dr. Adesunmbo Odeseye (Medical Director)
    ⦁ Mrs. Blessing Oyemere (Pharmacist)
    ⦁ Mrs. Modinat Lawal (Nursing Assistant)
    ⦁ Mrs. Basirat Yakub (Nursing Assistant)

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, who joined the celebration towards the tail end expressed excitement at the extent of development recorded by the hospital and thanked the Foundation for the donated equipment.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Odeseye thanked members of staff and guests for gracing the event and the Board especially for giving the hospital wings to fly. She expressed excitement the hospital’s prospect in the next decade.

The celebration was rounded off with cutting of the anniversary cake and free health checks for 200 participants.
