The remodeling of a section of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Main Library is set to commence, as its sponsor, Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited has formally handed the project over to James Boer Limited (JBL), the Project Contractor.
To acknowledge the approval of the terms of reference on the execution of the remodeling project, the three (3) parties: UNILAG, Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited and James Boer Limited, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
The MoU signing and project handing-over ceremony held at the UNILAG Main Library was attended by management staff of the university including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu; University Librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid along with some library staff and Director of Works and Services Division, Engineer Akinwande accompanied by some staff of the Division; representatives of Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited and James Boer Limited, Mr. Bidemi Alfred (an alumnus of UNILAG) and Architect Shemo Akpene.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, appreciated Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited for its kind support and contributions to the upliftment of the University, through infrastructural development. He made particular reference to the late Professor Babatunde Sofoluwe Park which was revamped in 2022, and is still being maintained at no cost to the University, by the investment firm.
According to Professor Chukwu, “the library is the heartbeat of the university. The standard of the university is dependent on the strength of the library. We are, therefore, looking forward to the timely completion of this beautiful project ahead of the visit of the National Universities Commission Accreditation team as this would boost the accreditation rating of the university”.
In her remarks, the University Librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid commended Alpha Morgan Capital Managers Limited for its efforts in making the University of Lagos Library a point of international reference. She also appreciated the university management team, and staff of the Library for their innovative drive.
While expressing optimism that the project would be completed before the end of 2023, Professor Zaid looked forward to “the beautiful moment of the commissioning of the world-class project”.
