The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has awarded the contract for the construction of the Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS) Building at the University of Lagos.
The three storey edifice is to be constructed by Messrs Maingrove Services Limited within the next six months.
This was made known to the authorities of the University of Lagos on Thursday, December 8, 2022, when a team from the agency delivered a letter of commitment announcing the commencement of the project, with a ground breaking ceremony on Saturday December 10, 2022 by the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Engineer Mu’azu Jaji Sambo.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu who received the team, on behalf of the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola FAS, expressed excitement and appreciation that NIMASA was poised to begin and complete the project in record-time.
He emphasized the readiness of the University to fully support the contractor to ensure that the construction is completed on time, and in line with international standard.
The Institute of Maritime Studies, University of Lagos, with the support of NIMASA, aims to provide suitable manpower requirement for contemporary maritime industry through comprehensive theoretical and practical training.
