The University of Lagos has resumed its academic session after the 8-month-long strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Here is a summary of the latest news in UNILAG since their resumption. 

 

 1. EXAMINATIONS BEGIN SOON 

This is the latest news in UNILAG; lectures for the semester were in conclusion just before ASUU embarked on a first warning strike, two consecutive 8-week-long warning strikes, and then an indefinite one before the court order to call off the strike. The school will begin exams by 5th December 2022. The University of Lagos also extended the course registration for students till- 6th November 2022. 

 

2. EXTENSION OF POST-UTME SCREENING 

Part of the latest news in UNILAG is that the school has extended its ongoing online undergraduate admission screening process for the 2022/2023 session. This session will begin in September 2023, and the screening process for all courses now ends on Friday, 11th November 2022. 

 

3. FIRST CONFERENCE ON DATA PROTECTION – The University of Lagos held its 1st National Data Protection Moot Court Competition and Mini-Conference organized by the Faculty of Law on 3rd November, which had the theme, “Future of Data Protection in Nigeria.” Various professionals in the data protection space in the legal industry were present at the event, and the keynote address was by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji. This event was pertinent as it stressed the need for data protection and management in Nigeria. 

 

4. OPEN EXHIBITION BEGINS 

As part of celebrating its 60th anniversary, the University of Lagos Library began an exhibition on 3rd November to tell its story since its inception in 1962. The showcase is held on the first and last Thursdays of each month from 10 am to 3 pm at the J. F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium Board Room all year. 

 

5. UMA HONORS NATIONAL AWARDEE 

A member of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni, Barrister Abdulsalam Idowu Kamaldeen, will be honored by the society on Sunday, 6th November as he was recently honored by the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari. He was conferred the honor; of Member of the Niger (MON). The University of Lagos Muslim Alumni will hold this meeting with the theme, “A Trajectory to the 2022 Nigeria National Honors,” via zoom by 5 pm. Here are the details to join the event;
