Int’l Collaboration: UNILAG receives Ass. Prof. Shota Furukawa of Keio University, Japan

Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Thursday, August 29, 2024, formally received Shota Furukawa, an Associate Professor at the Hills Joint Research Laboratory for Future Preventive Medicine and Wellness, Keio University, Japan.

The Associate Professor is currently in the University as a facilitator at the Data Science School organized by the Department of Statistics, UNILAG. Associate Professor Furukawa, who is also a Full Stack Engineer at LiFE Investors, is in charge of teaching participants machine learning and deep learning techniques at the Data Science School. He is an innovative IT specialist with a passion for technological advancement and hands-on experience in SaaS system development.

Accompanied by the Head, Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science, Prof. Muminu Adamu and other members of the Local Organising Committee of the Data Science School: Dr. (Mrs.) Bridget Nkemole, Dr. (Mrs.) Josephine Onyeka-Ubaka, Dr. Rotimi Ogundeji, Dr. Nofiu Badmus, and Mr. Obafemi Keshinro, the renowned scholar was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa. She welcomed the team and spoke about the University, highlighting that UNILAG is open to collaborative opportunities.

The Data Science School is a yearly training programme organized by the Department of Statistics, University of Lagos (UNILAG), in collaboration with Statistics without Borders. The programme tagged “New Trends in Industry Engagement and Applications”, commenced on Monday, August 19, and will run until Friday, August 30, 2024.
